Brad Newley
AEK Athens (A1) is about to agree terms with 32-year old Australian international swingman Brad Newley (199-93kg-85, agency: BeoBasket) who currently plays at Sydney Kings in Australia. In 23 NBL games he had very impressive stats: 17.6ppg, 5.0rpg, 4.1apg and 1.2spg this season. The last season Newley played at Gran Canaria in Spanish Liga Endesa where in 35 games he recorded 8.0ppg, 2.6rpg and 1.5apg. He helped them to make it to the final and Supercup semifinals. Newley also played 22 games in Eurocup where he averaged 8.5ppg, 3.0rpg and 1.3apg.
In 2007 he was drafted by Houston Rockets (NBA) in second round (54th overall).
Newley was selected to Lithuanian League All-Star Game back in 2011.
He has been also a member of Australian international program for some years. Newley has regularly played for Australian senior team since 2006 and previously for U21 National Team between 2004 and 2005.
He also represented Australia at the FIBA Oceania Championships two years ago. Newley's team won Gold and his stats at that event were 2 games: 4.0ppg, 3.0rpg.
Newley is quite experienced player. His career allowed him to visit three different continents, while he played in five different countries. Newley tasted the life as pro basketball player in Europe, Australia and of course North America. He has played previously professionally also in Turkey (Besiktas), Spain (Valencia Basket), Greece (Panionios and Panellinios), Lithuania (Lietuvos rytas) and Australia (Townsville Crocodiles, Australian Institute Sport and Forestville Eagles).
On Newley: (by Matias Muzio for NBADraft.net in 2007)
Wing with a good feel for the game and great intangables ... Good shooter with range out to 3 point ... Has a winning attitude, a leader ... Smart without the ball, moves well to get himself open ... Knows how to create his own shot ... When he's not shooting well, he finds ways to contribute with defense and hustle plays: a defensive rebound, an assist, draw a charge ... Very solid player ... Has good court vision ..
