Brad Newley
AEK Athens (A1) strengthened their roster with addition of 32-year old Australian international swingman Brad Newley (199-93kg-85, agency: BeoBasket). He started the season at Kings in Australian NBL league. In 23 games he recorded very impressive stats: 17.6ppg, 5.0rpg, 4.1apg and 1.2spg this season. The last season Newley played at Gran Canaria in Spanish Liga Endesa where in 35 games he averaged 8.0ppg, 2.6rpg and 1.5apg. He helped them to make it to the final and Supercup semifinals. Newley also played 22 games in Eurocup where he had 8.5ppg, 3.0rpg and 1.3apg.
In 2007 he was drafted by Houston Rockets (NBA) in second round (54th overall).
Newley was selected to Lithuanian League All-Star Game back in 2011.
He has been also a member of Australian international program for some years. Newley has regularly played for Australian senior team since 2006 and previously for U21 National Team between 2004 and 2005.
He also represented Australia at the FIBA Oceania Championships two years ago. Newley's team won Gold and his stats at that event were 2 games: 4.0ppg, 3.0rpg.
Newley is a very experienced player. Thanks to his pro career he managed to play on three different continents (Europe, Australia and of course North America) in five different countries. Newley has played previously professionally also in Turkey (Besiktas), Spain (Valencia Basket), Greece (Panionios and Panellinios), Lithuania (Lietuvos rytas) and Australia (Townsville Crocodiles, Australian Institute Sport and Forestville Eagles).
The scouts decsribe him following way: (by Matias Muzio for NBADraft.net in 2007)
Wing with a good feel for the game and great intangables ... Good shooter with range out to 3 point ... Has a winning attitude, a leader ... Smart without the ball, moves well to get himself open ... Knows how to create his own shot ... When he's not shooting well, he finds ways to contribute with defense and hustle plays: a defensive rebound, an assist, draw a charge ... Very solid player ... Has good court vision ..

NBA Teams Line Up to Sign Aussie Bogut - 3 hours ago
The race to snap up Australian big man Andrew Bogut (213-C-84, college: Utah) is hotting up as the seven-footer nears a return to action following his lengthy spell on the sidelines. The 32-year old's time with the Cleveland Cavaliers will go down in history, ending after less than a minute into Bogut's debut when the Aussie suffered a season-ending leg break. While the Cavs waived the 2015 NBA champion at the end of the year, they are now one of a number of franchises that are reportedly...   [read more]

NZ Breakers' coach Paul Henare slams team's performance in 39-point loss - 2 days ago
NZ Breakers coach Paul Henare would like to make a public apology to the people of Taranaki for his side's performance against Melbourne United on Tuesday night. While he said earlier in the week that the result wasn't their top priority, after the match Henare said the way the team played was a huge concern. "That was unacceptab...   [read more]
