Rebecca Cole
24-year old guard Rebecca Cole (178-G-92) put on an amazing game in the last round for second-ranked Eltham W. and receives a Australiabasket.com State League Player of the Week award for round 2.
She had the game-high 50 points adding seven rebounds and three assists for Eltham W. in her team's victory, helping them to beat McKinnon C. (#10, 0-2), the league's bottom-ranked team 86-76. Eltham W. is placed at 2nd position in their group in Australian league. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Eltham W. won both games without losing any. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. In the team's last game Cole had a remarkable 65.4% from 2-point range and got three three-pointers out of 6 attempts. She just recently signed at Eltham W. and it was her first game, where she immediately became new team's leader. Cole has impressive league stats. She is league's best scorer averaging so far 50.0ppg. Cole is in league's top in and averages solid 6.0spg,65.4% FGP and 50.0% from behind 3-point line.

Second best performed player last round was Kersten Mitchell (185-F-90) of Cockburn C.. She is American forward in her first season at Cockburn C.. In the last game Mitchell recorded impressive double-double of 33 points and 11 rebounds. Bad luck as Cockburn C. lost that game 87-96 to Willetton T. (1-1). The season is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next round. Mitchell is one of the most experienced players at Cockburn C. and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third place about best performers goes to center Amber Land (188-C) of Stirling S. (#6). Land showcased her all-around game by recording 20 points, twenty one rebounds (!!!) and four assists in the last round. She was a key player of Stirling S., leading her team to a 95-77 easy win against Rockingham CF (1-1). Stirling S. needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams in SBL. Their record at this point is 1 victories and 1 lost games. Land has a great season in Australia. After only 2 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 12.5rpg (8th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Stacey Barr (173-G-92) of Willetton T. - 37 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists
5. Brittany Hodges (185-F-93) of SW Slammers - 27 points and 20 rebounds
6. Amanda Meinking (192-C-96) of Warrandyte V. - 19 points and 22 rebounds
7. Orla Reilly) of Sunbury - 26 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists
8. Victoria Jarosz) of Ringwood H. - 20 points and 15 rebounds
9. Casey Mihovilovich (173-G-82) of Mandurah M. - 21 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists
10. Emilee Harmon (188-F) of Perth R. - 21 points and 11 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Abby Bishop claims Australian WNBL weekly honour - 1 day ago
International Center Abby Bishop (189-C-88) put on an amazing game in the last round for Adelaide and that's her to receive a Australiabasket.com Player of the Week award for round 2. The 29-year old center had a double-double of 35 points and ten rebounds, while her team beat Perth (#8, 0-3), the league's bottom-ranked team 89-81. Adelaide maintains the 3rd position in Australian WNBL. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost that single game earlier this season. Adelaide wil...   [read more]

Marianna Tolo's double-double lands her Player of the Week award among Australians playing currently abroad: - 2 days ago
We bring you last week's top performances from Australians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level. This week's number one is an international center Marianna Tolo (196-89, agency: ProDep Management). She could not help Abdullah Gul (0-1) in their last game. Despite Tolo's very good performance the third-placed Abdullah Gul (0-1) was edged 76-74 on the road by the leading Istanbul Uni in the group E of Eurocup.    [read more]

WNBL Round 2 of Regular Season - 2 days ago
There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in WNBL. Boomers smashed Bendigo Spirit in Melbourne 90-63. The game was mostly controlled by Boomers. Bendigo Spirit managed to win fourth quarter 25-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 22-of-26 free shots (84.6 percent) during the game. Boomers forced 21 Bendigo Spirit turnovers and outrebounded them 43-27 including 16 on the offensive glass. 25 p...   [read more]
