Here is the weekly review of the top performing Australian players, who play currently abroad.


Abby Bishop

   #1. This week's number one is an international center Abby Bishop (189-88, currently plays in France). She could not help Tarbes (4-2) in their last game. Despite Bishop's very good performance the third-placed Tarbes (4-2) was edged 72-69 at home by the leading Angers in the Play-Out group. She had a double-double by scoring 26 points and getting 12 rebounds. Bishop also added 4 assists in 38 minutes on the court. It's Bishop's first season with the team. She has individually a very good year with high stats. Bishop averages: 19.8ppg, 10.2rpg, 1.8apg, 1.6spg, 2FGP: 45.2%, 3FGP: 37.3% and FT: 81.9% in 19 games she played so far. Ex-Canberra Capitals player is currently a member of the Australian senior national team.

Cayla George

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Cayla George (192-89, currently plays in Hungary). She led UNIQA Sopron to an easy victory against the seventh-ranked ZTE NKK (9-11) crushing them 77-47 in the Hungarian A Division last Friday. George recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and getting 10 rebounds. She also added 4 assists and 2 blocks. UNIQA Sopron (16-4) is placed second in the A Division. George has relatively good stats this season: 12.0ppg, 7.4rpg, 1.7apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 51.9%, 3FGP: 23.3% and FT: 92.3%(48-52). Ex-Cairns Dolphins player is in the roster of the Australian senior national team.

Natalie Hurst

   #3. The Australian player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced former international point guard Natalie Hurst (164-83, currently plays in Turkey). She was not able to help Hatay (13-11) in their last game. Despite Hurst's good performance Hatay was crushed 103-76 on the road by the leading Fenerbahce. She recorded 11 points and added 5 assists in 38 minutes. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. This year Hurst has relatively solid stats: 11.8ppg, 4.3rpg, 4.3apg, 2FGP: 41.4%, 3FGP: 38.1% and FT: 87.9% in 20 games. Former Gladstone Port City Power starter played for the Australian national team three years ago.

   #4. Point guard Leilani Mitchell (165-85, college: Utah, currently plays in Turkey) was not able to secure a victory for Girne Universitesi (6-19) in their last game on Saturday. Despite her very good performance Girne Universitesi was defeated 90-81 in Istanbul by the leading Fenerbahce. Mitchell was the second best scorer with 20 points. She also added 8 assists and 4 steals. Mitchell's team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial. This season Mitchell has very high stats. She averages: 20.7ppg, 2.3rpg, 6.0apg and 1.3spg. Mitchell is a naturalized American. She is also Australian national team player. Mitchell used to play for Dandenong Rangers in Australian league.

   #5. Former international swingman Alice Kunek (187-91, currently plays in France) couldn't help Lyon (3-3) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Kunek's very good performance Lyon (#2) was defeated 80-73 on their home court in Lyon by the lower-ranked Tarbes (#3) in the Play-Out group. She was the second best scorer with 18 points. Kunek also added 4 rebounds (made all of her ten free throws !!!). Kunek's overall stats this season are: 7.7ppg, 3.8rpg and 1.5apg. She used to play for the Australian national team two years ago.

Center Alexandra Bunton (198-93, currently plays in EEWBL) led her Russian team Dynamo Moscow to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Basket Gdynia (7-1) 88-69 in the EEWBL in Sunday night's game. Bunton recorded 13 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 22 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Dynamo Moscow (7-1) is placed fourth in the EEWBL. Bunton has reliable stats this year: 10.7ppg and 8.7rpg in seven games. She is a former U22 international player as she played for the Australian team two years ago.

   #7. International small forward Katie-Rae Ebzery (177-90, currently plays in EEWBL) is a teammate of previously mentioned Alexandra Bunton and both played together in the last EEWBL game. Ebzery contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Basket Gdynia (7-1) 88-69. She recorded 7 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Ebzery's overall stats this season are: 7.6ppg, 2.5rpg, 3.7apg and 1.1spg. She is also Australian national team player.

   #8. Forward Louella Tomlinson (193-88, college: St.Mary's, CA, currently plays in Hungary) couldn't help Miskolc (13-7) in their game against UNI Gyor (15-5) in the Hungarian A Division. She cannot count Friday's game as one of the best ones. Tomlinson recorded only 2 points in 16 minutes. Miskolc was badly defeated 74-57 in Gyor by the higher-ranked (#3) UNI Gyor. This year Tomlinson's overall stats are: 8.2ppg, 5.6rpg, 1.2apg and 2.0bpg in 21 games. She used to play for the Australian university national team back in 2011.

Former University international guard Amy Lewis (175-86, college: Troy, currently plays in France) is a teammate of previously mentioned Abby Bishop and both played together in the last French LFB game. Lewis couldn't help Tarbes (4-2) in their game against Angers (1-5). She cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. Lewis scored only 2 points. Tarbes (#3) was edged 72-69 on their home court in Tarbes by the leading Angers in the Play-Out group. Lewis' total stats this season are: 2.5ppg and 1.5rpg. She used to play for the Australian university national team eight years ago.

   #1. Alex Sheedy (185-F-92, college: Fresno St., currently plays in Greece) could not help one of league's weakest teams Kronos AD (3-18) in their last game. Despite her very good performance Kronos AD lost 65-75 on the road to the higher-ranked (#10) AS Aris Thessalonikis. Sheedy had a double-double by scoring 28 points and getting 10 rebounds in 39 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only her second season in pro basketball. It was Kronos AD's third consecutive loss in a row. Sheedy's team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Sheedy has individually a very good year with high stats. She averages: 15.1ppg, 7.4rpg, 1.1apg and 1.6spg in 20 games she played so far.

   #2. Experienced Rebecca Thoresen (178-F/G-78, currently plays in Germany) managed to help TSV 1880 Wasserburg in a victory against the closely-ranked ChemCats Chemnitz (21-9) crushing them 97-59 in the German DBBL on Sunday night. Thoresen recorded only 4 points in 19 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. TSV 1880 Wasserburg (20-2) is placed first in the DBBL. It was her team's ninth consecutive victory in a row. Thoresen has been at the team for nine years. This season she averages just 1.9ppg in 11 games. Thoresen has a dual citizenship: Maltese and Australian.

   #3. Amy Browne (178-G/F-90, currently plays in United Kingdom) was the major contributor in Mystics' victory against the closely-ranked Team Northumbria (8-8) 85-72 in the British WBBL in Saturday night's game. She recorded 19 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Manchester Mystics (11-5) is placed third in the WBBL. It was her team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Browne averaged so far 14.8ppg, 5.3rpg and 2.5apg.

KFUM Ostersund Basket (BasketEttan) added to their roster 24-year old American guard Ta'Rea Cunnigan (175-93, college: San Jose State). She played last summer at Knox Raiders in Australian Big V. In 22 games she recorded very impressive stats: 15.3ppg, 4.5rpg, 1.9apg and 1.9spg. Cunnigan helped them to end the regular season as a second best team in the league. Former international Center Elizabeth Cambage (203-C-91) had a very impressive game in the last round for second-ranked Bulleen B., receiving a Australiabasket.com Player of the Week award for round 10. The 26-year old player had a double-double of 32 points and 12 rebounds, while her team edged out Adelaide (#4, 9-7) 64-62. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. There was no lack of excitement in the last round games. The round ended with favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin.
