There was a minor upset when their close opponent Suns (0-3) were outscored by thirteenth ranked Cougars (2-2) in Kalamunda 115-94 on Saturday. Cougars made 29-of-35 free shots (82.9 percent) during the game. Cougars outrebounded Suns 45-30 including a 32-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Suns were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Swingman Gavin Field (202-89, college: UWG) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Naturalized Greek swingman Nic Pozoglou (196-96) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Five Cougars players scored in double figures. American forward Chris Johnson (201-90, college: UIW) answered with 30 points and 4 steals and power forward Ryan Blanchett (203-96, college: FNU) added 21 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) in the effort for Suns. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cougars moved-up to sixth place in League. Loser Suns still closes the standings with three games lost. Cougars will face higher ranked Tigers (#4) in Willetton in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Suns will play at home against the league's leader Hawks (#1) and look forward to get finally their first victory.
