There was a surprise result in Wollongong where twelfth ranked Mustangs (1-4) beat higher ranked Hawks (1-4) 61-50 on Saturday. Mustangs held Hawks to an opponent 24.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 36.7 percent accuracy of the winners. Mustangs had a 35-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Mustangs made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was Karlee Grayson who had a double-double by scoring 21 points, 14 rebounds, 7 assists and 8 steals. Rachel Williams chipped in 13 points. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Melanie Kirby (176) who recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds and Ebony Petre added 12 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Hawks' coach gave the chance to play for ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Mustangs left bottom position moving up to tenth place in League. Mustangs will face league's leader Sharks in Sutherland in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Hawks will play on the road against Manly Warringah Sea Eagles (#7) in Narrabeen and hope to win that game.
