Regular Season Round 12: Mt Gambier - Ballarat M. 86-88

A very interesting game took place in Mt Gambier. It ended with only two-point home defeat of top-ranked Mount Gambier Pioneers (6-2) to thirteenth ranked Ballarat Miners (3-5) 88-86 on Saturday evening. Ballarat Miners made 19-of-25 charity shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Ballarat Miners outrebounded Mount Gambier Pioneers 62-50 including a 24-12 advantage in offensive rebounds. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. It was a good game for guard William Hickey (194-99) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 14 rebounds. Guard Sam Short (195-98) contributed with 27 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. American Titus Robinson (201-90, college: Buffalo) replied with 40 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 4 blocks and his fellow American import center Nick Marshall (213, college: Union, KY) added 21 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for Mount Gambier Pioneers. Ballarat Miners moved-up to twelfth place in League. Mount Gambier Pioneers at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. Ballarat Miners' next round opponent will be higher ranked Spectres (#8) in East Burwood and it may be quite challenging game. Mount Gambier Pioneers will play on the road against Woodville Warriors (#5) in Flinders Park and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
