Everything could happen in Booval at the game between two tied teams. Both fourteenth ranked Cairns Marlins and bottom-ranked Ipswich Force had identical 0-2 record. But Ipswich Force was not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Cairns 83-72 on Saturday night. Cairns Marlins forced 25 Ipswich Force turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of swingman James Mitchell (194-91) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and the former international power forward Alexander Loughton (206-83, college: ODU) who added 20 points during the contest. Five Cairns Marlins players scored in double figures. Cairns Marlins' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Ethan Robinson with 17 points and American swingman Mike Fleming (, college: Mesabi Range) scored 16 points. Cairns Marlins (1-2) left bottom position moving up to tenth place in League. Loser Ipswich Force still closes the standings with three games lost. Cairns Marlins will face higher ranked Townsville Heat (#4) in Hermit Park in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
