There was a small surprise in Hermit Park where fifth ranked Rip City (5-2) defeated much higher ranked Townsville Heat (5-3) 86-73 on Friday. Rip City made 19-of-20 free shots (95.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Townsville Heat turnovers. American forward Eric McAlister (204-90, college: Stony Brook) fired a double-double by scoring 13 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. The former international guard Tanner Krebs (198-96, college: St.Mary's, CA) chipped in 25 points. Five Rip City players scored in double figures. Guard Ethan Betts (188, college: Umpqua CC) produced 24 points and swingman Jalen Patton-Croker (193-99, college: Southeast CC) added 9 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for lost side. Townsville Heat's coach rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Rip City moved-up to fourth place in League. Loser Townsville Heat dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. Rip City will meet at home league's second-placed Mackay Meteors in the next round and it may be the game of the week.
