Regular Season Round 18: Nunawading S. - Mt Gambier 106-97

There was a surprise result in East Burwood where eleventh ranked Spectres (6-5) beat one of their biggest challengers Mount Gambier Pioneers (8-4) 106-97 on Sunday. Spectres made 23-of-26 free shots (88.5 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was American center Dain Swetalla (206-86, college: Augustana, IL) who had a double-double by scoring 26 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!). Thomas Wright chipped in 18 points and 6 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international guard Tom Daly (182-91) who recorded 27 points and 7 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and American center Nick Marshall (213, college: Union, KY) added 19 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Mount Gambier Pioneers' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Spectres moved-up to seventh place in League. Loser Mount Gambier Pioneers dropped to the sixth position with four games lost. Spectres will meet higher ranked Waverley Falcons (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Mount Gambier Pioneers will play against Central District Lions and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
