There was a surprise result when eleventh ranked Magic (4-7) beat top-ranked Wanneroo (8-3) in Mandurah 72-63 on Saturday. Magic forced 20 Wanneroo turnovers. Forward Carly Boag (188-95, college: Minot St.) notched a double-double by scoring 15 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and guard Casey Mihovilovich (173-82) supported her with 17 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals. Even 19 points and 7 rebounds by American forward Kayla Steindl (187-89, college: Gonzaga) did not help to save the game for Wanneroo. Her fellow American import power forward Amber Land (188-85, college: EMU) added 9 points and 8 rebounds for the guests. Wanneroo's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Magic moved-up to tenth place in League. Loser Wanneroo still keeps top position with three games lost. Magic will meet at home higher ranked Tigers (#4) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Wanneroo will play against Senators and hope to secure a win.
