Regular Season Round 20: SW Slammers - Cockburn C. 73-90

Everything went according to plan when ninth ranked Cougars (5-9) defeated 14th ranked Slammers (2-10) in Bunbury 90-73 on Friday. Cougars forced 20 Slammers turnovers and outrebounded them 50-35 including 18 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The winners were led by swingman Gavin Field (202-89, college: UWG) who scored that evening 19 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals and naturalized Greek swingman Nic Pozoglou (196-96) supported him with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Even a double-double of 12 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists by center Mitch Keller (203-96, college: Delta St.) did not help to save the game for Slammers. Caleb Van De Griend added 11 points and 7 rebounds for the hosts. Five Cougars and four Slammers players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Cougars maintains ninth position in League with 5-9 record. Loser Slammers keep the fourteenth place with ten games lost. Cougars will meet higher ranked Tigers (#3) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Slammers will play against Giants (#10) and hope to secure a win.
