We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 8th ranked Ballarat Miners (8-7) were defeated on the road by ninth ranked Bendigo Braves (8-7) 84-71 on Sunday. Bendigo Braves dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to Ballarat Miners' 16. They outrebounded Ballarat Miners 48-31 including 33 on the defensive glass. Bendigo Braves looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American forward Ray Turner (206-90, college: Texas A&M) fired a double-double by scoring 32 points and 19 rebounds for the winners. Guard Jacob Foy (193, college: HPU) chipped in 15 points and 4 assists. Bendigo Braves' coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Center Jock Perry (216-97, college: UC Riverside) produced 19 points and 7 rebounds and guard William Hickey (194-99) added 15 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Bendigo Braves moved-up to eighth place in League. Bendigo Braves will meet Brisbane Spartans (#8) on the road in the next round. Ballarat Miners will play against Geelong Supercats and hope to secure a win.
