The biggest surprise took place in Bulleen where host Boomers (3-0) beat league's leader Cougars (3-1) 69-57 on Sunday evening. It was a key game for the top position in League. Boomers looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Boomers made 10 blocks. Naturalized British forward Louella Tomlinson (193-1988, college: St.Mary's, CA) fired a double-double by scoring 12 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 blocks for the winners. Forward Olivia Bontempelli (179-1993) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds. Boomers' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Morgan Ili produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds and point guard Claire Ioannidis (170, college: UNF) added 23 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Boomers keep a position of League leader. Cougars at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Albury LB. Cougars will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Boomers will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Gulls in Melbourne.
