There was no surprise when 6th ranked Sutherland Sharks (1-1) were outplayed on the road by third ranked Canberra Gunners (2-1) 112-75 on Saturday. Canberra Gunners outrebounded Sutherland Sharks 44-24 including a 13-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 51.9 percentage. Akech Aliir fired 23 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. William Mayfield chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Lochlan Hutchison (188-1999, agency: BIG) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 assists and Callum Norris added 18 points respectively for lost side. Five Canberra Gunners and four Sutherland Sharks players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Canberra Gunners maintains third position in League with 2-1 record having seven points less than leader Wyndham D. Loser Sutherland Sharks dropped to the seventh place with one game lost. Canberra Gunners will meet at home Hawks (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Sutherland Sharks will have a break next round.
