Regular Season Round 11: Mackay M. - Cairns D. 91-90

The biggest surprise took place in Mackay where host Meteorettes (2-0) edged league's leader Dolphins (2-1) 91-90 on Sunday evening. It was a key game for the top position in League. Meteorettes forced 33 Dolphins turnovers. 28 personal fouls committed by Dolphins helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American forward Alisia Jenkins (186-1994, college: S.Florida) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds. Forward Shaneice Swain (175-2003) chipped in a double-double by scoring 23 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 10 steals. Five Meteorettes players scored in double figures. Meteorettes' coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The former international center Cayla George (193-1989) produced a double-double by scoring 26 points and 17 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and Alessandra Burke added 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) respectively for the guests. Meteorettes keep a position of League leader. Dolphins at the other side dropped to the fourth place with one game lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Norths Bears. Dolphins will play next round against Pirates trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Meteorettes will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Cyclones in Rockhampton.
