There was no surprise in Melbourne where 5th ranked Vikings (3-4) were crushed by third ranked Cougars (5-2) 90-47 on Sunday. Cougars held Vikings to an opponent 23.7 percent shooting from the field compared to 44.2 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Vikings 61-33 including a 49-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. American guard Sharif Black (185-1996, college: Bemidji St.) had a double-double by scoring 24 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and forward Tom Carroll (200-2003) chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. American guard Denzel Brito (185-1991, college: Loyola, MD) responded with 9 points and 4 assists and his fellow American import forward DMonte Evans (190, college: Bluefield) scored 10 points and 5 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cougars maintains third position in League with 5-2 record having just four point less than leader Geelong S. Loser Vikings keep the fifth place with four games lost. Cougars will meet at home Camberwell (#4) in the next round. Vikings will play against the league's leader Devils and hope to secure a win.
