Everything went according to plan when fourth ranked Ballarat Miners (5-3) defeated 15th ranked Tigers (2-5) in Wendouree 86-72 on Saturday. Guard Koen Sapwell (193, college: CS Monterey) notched 33 points (!!!) to lead the effort and American-Kenyan forward Preston Bungei (198-1995, college: Norfolk St.) supported him with 8 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Even 21 points and 6 rebounds by guard Michael Wearne (188-1996, college: St.Rose, NY) did not help to save the game for Tigers. Forward Mason Gaze (198, college: Lindenwood) added 15 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Tigers players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Despite that victory Ballarat Miners went down to sixth position (League) due to points difference. Loser Tigers keep the fifteenth place with five games lost. Ballarat Miners will meet higher ranked Waverley Falcons (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Tigers will play against Sabres (#11) and hope to secure a win.
