Regular Season Round 18: Diamond VE - Ringwood H. 54-87
Date: May 29, 2022
Very expected game in Greensborough where 20th ranked Diamond Valley Eagles (1-7) were crushed by seventh ranked Hawks (6-2) 87-54. Hawks dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Diamond Valley Eagles' 26. Hawks forced 26 Diamond Valley Eagles turnovers. Guard Marena Whittle (180-1994, college: NDSU, agency: LBM Management) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the effort and Latvian forward Digna Strautmane (188-1998, college: Georgia Tech) supported her with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Four Hawks players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 12 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists by forward Kate Oliver (193-1991, college: USC) did not help to save the game for Diamond Valley Eagles. Power forward Sophie Burrows (184-2004) added 12 points and 5 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hawks moved-up to fifth place in League. Diamond Valley Eagles at the other side keep the twentieth position with seven games lost. Hawks will play against league's leader Lady Braves in Bendigo in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Diamond Valley Eagles will play at home against Lady Cobras (#16) to get more than just one victory in their record.
