We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 11th ranked South West Metro Pirates (4-7) were smashed by twelfth ranked Rockets (5-7) in Runcorn 102-70 on Friday. Rockets dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to South West Metro Pirates' 42. They outrebounded South West Metro Pirates 51-26 including a 37-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Matthew McCarthy (205-1996, college: USF) notched a double-double by scoring 22 points and 20 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international point guard Kai Woodfall (183, college: MBU) supported him with 26 points and 6 assists. Five Rockets players scored in double figures. Even 20 points by guard Brendan Teys (188-1990) did not help to save the game for South West Metro Pirates. Naturalized New Zealand swingman Zac Carter (203-1989) added 13 points and 7 rebounds. South West Metro Pirates' coach gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Rockets moved-up to eleventh place in League. Loser South West Metro Pirates dropped to the twelfth position with seven games lost. Rockets will meet higher ranked Salties (#3) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. South West Metro Pirates will have a break next round.
