It was clear from the start that Saville's coach Danny Williams was not going to give the more experienced Proactive team an inch to move. Normally the Saville team would fall into a Zone defence and let the opposition players come to them but come finals night it was a different game.
The Saville team played most of the game in a full court man to man defence which at times made the Proactive team make mistakes that they wouldn't normally make.
In the end the pressure defence got to them and they turned over the ball too many times with Saville capitalizing on the turn overs with scoring baskets.
But in saying all that, the Proactive team did not go down without a very good fight. They made sure that all their big gun players were in attendance on the final night.
But the night belonged to the young Saville team, with an average age of just 15 it will be worth your time keeping an eye on their progress.

Friends Men take out 2006 Elite Comp
The men's final of the 2006 Elite comp saw 3 time champions Friends take on the young guns And2. With so many young players on the court we thought we were going to see a running game, but both sides decided to pass the ball around more and wait for the right scoring opportunities.
The Friends team had plenty of big boys on the inside, so And2 were forced to try and shoot the ball from the perimeter.
Having coach/player Nga Puna on the bench due to illness proved profitable for the Friends team in the end as he was able to give good direction to his team.
At half time Friends were only up by 3 points, but in the 2nd half the Friends team with the help of Charlie and Peter were able to outscore And2 21 -13.

With a full compliment of teams and few disappointed groups that missed the cut, games got underway a little after the scheduled start time. Right from the outset, it was evident that the teams were not just coming along for just a fun day out as there was some fierce competition and lots of jostling and committed bodies being put on the line.
