New Zealand-Fiji 66:47

New Zealand wins Pool 2 of the 2012 Pacific Youth Championships. The team overcame Fiji 66:47 and advanced to the Quarterfinals from the top place, while Fiji finished second with 2-1 record.
Both teams started the game undefeated and showed good defensive skills in the first period. New Zealand managed to grab 11-9 advantage and then added 14-10 in the second frame. They pushed the tempo for good in the second half and added two victories for the final success.
Ihaka Pink top-scored for the winners with 21 points and Jayden Bezzant added 15. Jack Salt and Raymond Penny followed them with 8 points each. Mataika Koyamainavure answered with 11 points in defeat and Pita Sowakula delivered 9. Filimoni Vulimailaucala scored 8 and Ulaiasi Koroi had 7.
Tomorrow New Zealand will face Tahiti, while Fiji will play against Samoa.

Cheshire Phoenix (BBL) inked 22-year old Fijian international forward Joshua Fox (198-95kg-94). He just graduated from Cal-Davis (NCAA). In 28 games he recorded 14.8ppg, 6.8rpg, 2.1apg and 1.1spg last season. A very good year in his career as he was voted to All-Big West 2nd Team. The Fijian basketball team are gearing up for the U18 Oceania Basketball Championship, to be played at the Vodafone Arena, Suva in December. With only five months to go, Basketball Fiji along with International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Oceania and the Australian Basketball Statistics Committee has kicked started preparations by conducting technical training. THE Fiji Secondary Schools Basketball competition yesterday featured new winners in the under-15, U17 and U19 grades for the boys and girls divisions. Yat Sen Secondary School boys thrashed Latter-day Saints College 27-15 in the U15 final of the Tuckers Ice Cream-sponsored tournament.
