For the first time in the country's history, Fiji's women basketball team will have an opportunity to play in the 2008 Olympic Games. The fijians only need one single thing: a victory over New Zealand in the upcoming Oceania Championships.

Australia is already qualified for the Olympics thanks to its World title last year, the aussies will send an experimental team in the Championships with many young players. But even with a B (or C) squad, Australia is still above the rest. New Zealand and Fiji will compete for the second spot which is an automatic berth for the Olympics, the losing team would compete in a tricky Olympic qualifying tournament next year against teams from Europe, America, Africa and Asia.
Fiji has never defeated New Zealand but the country is improving fast. Fiji is without any doubt the best team in the Pacific Islands. 2007 South Pacific Games Gold medalist, the fijians only lost by 10 in the 2006 Oceania Youth Tournament against the host New Zealand. A fijian win seems like a long shot but the girls and definitely ready for it.

Schedule:
Wed 26th September - New Zealand v Australia
Thur 27th September - Australia v Fiji
Friday 28th September - New Zealand v Fiji
Saturday 29th September - FINAL
