Of course nobody was expecting a fijian win but at least Fiji was hoping to field a full-strenght team. Without it's three best players (Nainima and the Whippy sisters), Fiji was unable to stop the australian team. The Opals were leading 110-13 after three quarters and were holding the pacific islanders to a 4/38 shooting game during this period. Australia played the last quarter on a cooler mode, 26-19. Fiji and New Zealand will face each other tomorrow for a direct qualification to the Beijing Olympics.

"The main reason we came is for our girls to see what it is like to play and excel at this level. The competition is probably 10 steps above our South Pacific Games event. In addition we need to play here as a stepping stone to the future." said the fijian coach Michael Whippy.

Fiji claim 6th at FIBA Women's Asia Cup 2017 - 4 months ago
Team Fiji has rounded out their Bengaluru campaign by taking home 6th place in the tournament.
