THE finals of the Raiwaqa Basketball knockout tournament were cancelled due to the heavy rain in the capital city yesterday.

And University of the South Pacific (USP) Chosen created the upset of the day when they beat favourites Lady Birds in the women's semi-finals 35-29 at Eds courts.

USP Chosen will face defending Easter champions Sparks in the finals next Saturday while Warriors plays Boston White in the men's final.

Led by sisters Vika and Joyce Fifita, Chosen proved to be a force to reckon with Grace Taito on their side.

Lady Bird laced with experience players like Seini Dobui, Maria Tamani, Vuinadi Saketa and Aggie Sokosoko could not contain the fast and more fitter Chosen side.

Chosen's coach and Basketball Fiji's development officer Laisiasa Puamau was pleased with the result.

The victory was a sweet revenge for the minnows as Lady Birds always thrashed Puamau's side during the weekly games.

'This is the upset of this tournament.

'My team is a very young team and we often get thrashed by Lady Birds in our weekly competition.'

'I am happy with the performance of the girls, this is a wake up call for Lady Birds.

'Our team is improving and we are looking forward to the finals,' Puamau said.

He added they had to postpone the finals because of the heavy rain in Suva.
