BOSTON White are the winners of the Raiwaqa Basketball Players Association Festive League after defeating Bryce 50-47. The team had earlier defeated the University of the South Pacific basketball team in the semi-final 30-19 with Bryce advanced to the final after ousting Mighty Mights 33-19. Despite bowing out of the competition in the semi-final, USP coach Manoa Puamau said the team was relatively new and would be a force to be reckoned with in the future. "A lot of these players are new players and are mostly USP students at the beginning of the year, we came together formed, they reached the semi-final and lost to Boston White by one point. "I expect this team to be a real threat next year and the years to come -- we have been competing for about four years now but under a different coach and this is the first year in which I have served as coach for the team," he said. He added that while the students were on a break, they still took time out to train and compete for the final week of competition. "It's a bit difficult to try and get people to come together because it's the break, but luckily thanks to social media its easy to communicate now and they also give their hundred per cent when they come to training. They are really young boys, all undergraduates and are really eager to learn so its really fine coaching them," he said.
