Guam National Team wrapped up their preliminary round campaign at the Oceania championship with a loud victory. They stunned New Zealand today to clinch the third spot. New Zealand slipped at 1-3 record and would face Australia in the semifinal.
The Emerging Tall Blacks seemed obvious favorites before the game but it was the second time in this tournament that New Zealand looked quite hapless. Guam stayed aggressive right from the start as they ensured a 21:13 lead at the first intermission. Guam maintained the pressure in the second quarter as they took advantage of 7 turnovers from New Zealand. The lead grew at 19 points at halftime as Guam controlled the situation. New Zealand needed a drastic change in the second half but it never came. Moreover the Emerging Tall Blacks scored only 5 points in the period falling behind by 24. Guam coasted to the win in the final stanza posting the second victory at the tournament.
Joseph Blas (183-G/F) scored 17 points and grabbed 9 boards for Guam. William Stinnett (186-G-86) knocked down 11 points for the winning team. Luke Aston responded with 11 points for New Zealand. Zacharia Makavilitogia had 9 points and 7 boards in defeat.

Team Guam competing in FIBA 3X3 tournament in China - 12 days ago
The Men's National 3X3 Basketball Team is headed east for the FIBA Asia 3X3 Championships in Shenzhen, China, from April 27 to May 2. Leading the team is Daren Hechanova, a 6-foot-3 inch guard considered one of the best defenders from Guam. Hechanova, 24, has built an impressive 3X3 resume over the last two years. Tridents, Harvest earn wins in college hoops league - 3 months ago
The University of Guam Recreation Department Trident Men's Basketball Club routed the Pacific Islands University Tide 96-27 Monday in the Guam Men's College Basketball League at the UOG Calvo Field House. In the other game, the Harvest Baptist Bible College team upset Guam Community College 79-73. Tritons improve to 2-0 in men's hoops league - 3 months ago
The University of Guam beat Guam Community College 103-80 Tuesday in the Guam Men's College Basketball League. The Tritons went into halftime with a 50-43 lead and took full control in the second half. Demadjeo Simon scored 26 points with 11 rebounds and three blocked shots for the Tritons while Anthony Brown scored 23 points with 12 rebounds and Ryan Nangaula added 21 points, according to a UOG news release.
