Korea edge Guam at East Asian Games - Dec 6, 2009

South Korea - Guam 121:72
South Korea reached the semifinal stage at the 2009 East Asian Games. They knocked down Guam on the final day of the preliminary action in Group B. Chun Jung-Kyu (188-G-83) fired 30 points as Korea claimed the second win and occupied the second spot in the pool. Guam suffered the third consecutive defeat and remained at the bottom of the standings. Korea grabbed the lead right from the tip-off and maintained it well throughout the starting quarter. They poured in 29 points worth a 19-point lead at the first break. Guam adjusted their offence scoring 23 points in the second quarter but South Korea matched it on the other end with 31 points of their own. Guam could not slow their opponents down defensively as Korea stretched the margin at 41 points heading into the fourth term. Korea delivered 31 points in the fourth stanza and celebrated a well-deserved win at the end.
Hyung-Chul Park scored 17 points and 7 assists for South Korea. Park Chan Hee (191-G-87) netted 15 points and issued 11 assists for the winners. Joseph Blas (183-G/F) responded with 20 points for Guam. William Stinnett (186-G-86) dropped 14 points and pulled down 9 boards in the loss. South Korea will take on the winner of tomorrows Taiwan vs. China clash in the semis.

The Phoenix defeated MacTech 88-77 in the tip-off game of the Guam Basketball Association's Season Four opener at the University of Guam Calvo Field House on Sunday, April 2. Each team racking up their share of fouls and turnovers, MacTech got 14 turnovers to Phoenix's 9. Early in the first quarter, Phoenix pulled ahead with a 16-11 lead over MacTech. James Blond Supercity Rangers (NBL) signed 26-year old American (has also Guamanian passport) guard Earnest Ross (196-103kg-91, college: Missouri). He just played at Team FOG Naestved in Danish Ligaen. In 23 games he had 14.7ppg, 6.4rpg, 1.7apg and 1.6spg this season. Ross helped them to win the cup.
