The 7th season of the Island-wide Village Youth Basketball League is expected to begin in early or mid March and the Division of Sports and Recreation is urging participating teams to prepare.
League coordinator Joe Mettao also said that the IVYBL will be having an organizational meeting on February 25 to decide the kick-off date for the 14-and-under basketball tournament.
The organizational meeting is set at 5;30pm at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium conference room.
It could be recalled that Mettao announced at the later part of last year that the IVYBL will be organizing only one tournament beginning in 2004.
For the past years, organizers have always held the IVYBL twice a year, with the first season taking place during the summer and the shorter second season beginning in December.
Mettao said the two-season format per year was shelved because of the proliferation of other youth leagues for baseball and basketball on Saipan.
The IVYBL charges an entrance fee of $100 and teams are required to submit documents verifying the ages of players.
In the last IVYBL, the sweet shooting of guard L.J. Reyes and inside of presence forward Jesse Garcia led the Chalan Kanoa Saints to a 68-65 victory over the Garapan Rollers I in the finals.

Duenas and Franklin Macahito...   [read more]

The Federated States of Micronesia submitted a men team for the upcoming 2007 South Pacific Games which will be held in Samoa but the federation had to withdraw the team due to financial reason.
