Caledonia Cup: Grand Chelem for Vallée-du-tir - Dec 7, 2005

JS Vallee-du-tir is back in business, the team showed everybody who was the best team in the country. JSVDT won everything this season: Opening Cup, South Province, Territorial and Caledonia Cup, they only missed the Pacific Cup in Tahiti for a couple of points. In the Caledonia Cup Final game they blasted Mont-Dore 79-49.

Mont-Dore field a very young squad in the 2005 Caledonia Cup to prepare the future, the youngsters managed to reach the final game but the last step was to big for them against the all-mighty Vallee-du-tir, even with the help of Felix Kilikili who led his side with 18pts. The game was tied at 11-11 in the first minutes but JSVDT started a 39-15 run to reach half-time on a 50-26 score. Fabrice Chaliot (198-F/C-76) was too big and too good for MDBC and Raymond Weber (200-F-89) hit some deadly three-pointers to seal the victory. The 16-year old Weber made a great season and might be the cornerstone for the caledonian basketball in the years to come.
"I want to congratulate Mont-Dore who decided to field many youngsters in such a big game, this is what we need to improve the caledonian basketball" said Eric Saminadin, JSVDT coach "We won everything in New Caledonia, we just failed in Tahiti and that's my biggest deception of the year. We had the talent to beat tham but Benoit Weber's injury really was a blow-out loss for us. We will be looking for a revenge next year in Noumea".
MDBC coach Jean-Claude Kilikili was proud of his young squad despite the loss: "Despite this 30-point loss i'm still happy with my team. I had several U16 players in the roster to prepare next season and they were pretty good." he said "The work we are doing during our pratice will pay off. They just need experience and maturity and they will get that in this kind of games."
This was a nice game to close a great season in New Caledonia.
