The visitors the Sydney Kings arrive in Auckland having completed a very impressive Queensland road trip last weekend. They defeated Townsville Crocodiles 92-87 on Friday and followed that up by beating Cairns Taipans 71-69 on Sunday. The triumvirate of Aaron Bruce (25 points), Ben Madgen (23) and diminutive import Corin Henry (18) were key to the Kings victory against the Crocs, shooting a combined 24 from 41 (58.5%) from the field. Madgen scored twenty plus points for the third consecutive game against Cairns as he and his teammates stole the win in the final few seconds of the game. Despite the loss of senior player James Harvey, sidelined for two months with a broken arm, the remaining guards will provide plenty of challenges for Jackson, Corletto, Bruton and co. The Sydney front court of Lazare, Garlepp and Crosswhite is not as explosive as the Breakers combination of Alex Pledger (213-C-87, college: Belm.Abbey) (leading the League in blocks), Vukona (2nd in the League in rebounds), Boucher and import Will Hudson but they have enough experience and savvy to cause the reigning champions some headaches. The Breakers are starting to find their mojo and the Kings are gaining confidence, Fans can expect an up tempo, high energy game that will kick off round 5 of the Australian National Basketball League.

Leon Henry's double-double lands him Player of the Week award among New Zealanders playing currently abroad: - 6 days ago
We bring you last week's top performances from New Zealanders who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level. Zac Carter (203-F/G-89) could not help Brisbane Capitals (8-2) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the second-placed Brisbane Capitals (8-2) were edged 95-93 on the road by the much lower-ranked (#9) South West Metro Pirates in the QBL group.    [read more]
