New Zealand Breakers import guard Cedric Jackson (191-G-86, college: Cleveland St.) has been named the National Basketball Leagues Player of the Week for Round Six of the iiNet NBL Championship after leading his side to a sweep of the infamous Sunshine Swing roadtrip to Far North Queensland.

Jackson was superb for the Breakers, averaging 17.0 points, 11.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 3.5 rebounds for the week.

The 191cm American guard started the round with 14 points, 11 assists, four rebounds and two steals in the Breakers 81-72 victory over Townsville on Friday night.

Jackson then backed up 24 hours later with 20 points, 12 assists, three rebounds and two steals as the Breakers routed the Taipans with a 73-54 win.

He became the first player in the NBL to have double-figure assists on consecutive nights since Derek Rucker for Townsville in April 1998.

Jackson took out the weekly award from Melbourne Tigers duo Chris Goulding and Seth Scott and Sydneys Corin Henry.

Corin Henry starred for the Kings as they ended the Wollongong Hawks undefeated start to the season with a 65-51 home victory. Henry had 19 points, six rebounds and three assists to help the Kings improve to 4-4 for the season.

The Tigers pair of Goulding and Scott led Melbourne to a 96-66 home victory over the Adelaide 36ers on Friday. Goulding had 24 points, three rebounds and three assists while Scott added 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Other leading contenders for Player of the Week in Round Six included Matt Knight (Perth), Daniel Johnson (Adelaide), CJ Massingale (Adelaide), Jonny Flynn (Melbourne), Rhys Martin (Wollongong) and Cameron Tragardh (Cairns).

FIBA QT in Manilla: France defeat New Zealand 66-59 - 23 days ago

For three whole periods, France seemed but shells of their true selves, but they finally righted the ship in the fourth quarter to defeat New Zealand, 66-59, on the third day of the 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Manila. Turning Point: New Zealand seemed to gain full control after a Corey Webster basket gave them a 50-38 lead early in the fourth quarter, but France had other plans. Les Bleus uncorked a searing 22-2 blast that obliterated the Tall Blacks' lead and permanently...   [read more]
