New Zealand Breakers import guard Cedric Jackson (191-G-86, college: Cleveland St.) has been named the National Basketball Leagues Player of the Week for Round Six of the iiNet NBL Championship after leading his side to a sweep of the infamous Sunshine Swing roadtrip to Far North Queensland.

Jackson was superb for the Breakers, averaging 17.0 points, 11.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 3.5 rebounds for the week.

The 191cm American guard started the round with 14 points, 11 assists, four rebounds and two steals in the Breakers 81-72 victory over Townsville on Friday night.

Jackson then backed up 24 hours later with 20 points, 12 assists, three rebounds and two steals as the Breakers routed the Taipans with a 73-54 win.

He became the first player in the NBL to have double-figure assists on consecutive nights since Derek Rucker for Townsville in April 1998.

Jackson took out the weekly award from Melbourne Tigers duo Chris Goulding and Seth Scott and Sydneys Corin Henry.

Corin Henry starred for the Kings as they ended the Wollongong Hawks undefeated start to the season with a 65-51 home victory. Henry had 19 points, six rebounds and three assists to help the Kings improve to 4-4 for the season.

The Tigers pair of Goulding and Scott led Melbourne to a 96-66 home victory over the Adelaide 36ers on Friday. Goulding had 24 points, three rebounds and three assists while Scott added 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Other leading contenders for Player of the Week in Round Six included Matt Knight (Perth), Daniel Johnson (Adelaide), CJ Massingale (Adelaide), Jonny Flynn (Melbourne), Rhys Martin (Wollongong) and Cameron Tragardh (Cairns).

Rebounding after what was by their own admission a disappointing semifinal performance, the Tall Blacks responded to the urging of their coach to "overcome adversity" and ground out a win, despite losing three players to five fouls and ending the game with a further three on the brink of fouling out. Tall Blacks run ends in semifinals - 5 days ago

The Tall Blacks run at the Atlas Challenge in China has come to an end in the semifinals, beaten 80-65 by a fired up Lithuania team, leaving the New Zealanders to play in the third place playoff on the final day against either China or Iran. After marching through group play unbeaten and showing great hustle on defence and sharing the load offensively, tonight was a flat performance in which the Tall Blacks were always behind. The New Zealanders lost the rebound count (31-35) and shot poo...   [read more]

Tall Blacks crush China - 7 days ago

The Tall Blacks have made it three from three on their overseas tour, crushing hosts China 98-74 overnight. Following victories over Belarus and Japan, the romp against the more favoured China was the most commanding of the lot, and will continue to boost the confidence within the camp. Aside from an early 7-5 lead, China barely thre...   [read more]
