Leon Henry
Waitakere SCR - Wellington S. 82-94

The Wellington Saints are crowned NBL champions. They outgunned the Waitakere Rangers in the Grand Final tonight. The game was mostly controlled by Saints. Rangers managed to win second period 29-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Saints made 7 blocks. 25 personal fouls committed by Rangers helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international swingman Leon Henry (202-85, college: S.Idaho JC) fired a double-double by scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. American-Fijian forward Tai Wesley (201-86, college: Utah St.) chipped in 19 points and 7 rebounds. The former international guard Lindsay Tait (190-82) produced 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and the former international guard Corey Webster (188-88, college: Lambuth) added 12 points respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures.

Saints' future uncertain - 1 month ago
Kevin Braswell will be back at the Wellington Saints next season, provided he has a team to coach. Saints owner Nick Mills confirmed on Thursday the 38-year-old American had re-signed on a two-year deal, with an option for both parties to get out after one season if they wanted to. Braswell guided the Saints to back-to-back National Basketball League titles in his first two seasons in charge, including a perfect 20-0 season this year. But Mills has been left miffed by a proposed rule chan...   [read more]
