International Guard Corey Webster (188-G-88) had a great game in the last round for league's leader Wellington S. and that's him to receive a Australiabasket.com Player of the Week award for round 4. The 28-year old guard had the game-high 31 points adding four rebounds and seven assists for Wellington S. in his team's victory, helping them to beat Canterbury (#4, 3-3) 114-104. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed Wellington S. to consolidate first place in the New Zealand NBL. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. The season is still on an early stage, but Wellington S. already had a very good start winning all 6 without losing a single one. In the team's last game Webster had a remarkable six three-pointers out of 10 attempts. He just recently signed at Wellington S., being already a very valuable addition to the team. Lambuth University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Webster is league's best scorer averaging so far 28.5ppg. Webster is in league's top in assists (6th best: 5.2apg) and averages solid 54.7% FGP.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 24-year old Australian Nick Kay (206-C/F-92) of second-ranked Southland S.. Kay impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 20 points and 15 rebounds. Of course he led Southland S. to another comfortable win outscoring SC Rangers (3-2) 100-73. It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Southland S. consolidated its place in top 2 of the standings. His team's 3-2 record is not bad at all. Kay is one of the most experienced players at Southland S. and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.
The third best performed player last round was American Marcel Jones (203-F-85) of Canterbury (#4). Jones got into 30-points club by scoring 32 points in the last round. He went also for eight rebounds . Despite Jones' great performance Canterbury lost 104-114 to #1 ranked Wellington S.. But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The last thing Canterbury needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 3 victories and 3 lost games. Jones has a great season in New Zealand. After only 6 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 24.2ppg (2nd best) and rebounds with 9.7rpg (3rd best). Marcel Jones has also New Zealand passport and can play in the league with a status of domestic player.

He spent his 2-year professional career in Germany. He has played for the last two years at played at VfL AstroStars Bochum in German ProB, but left the team in Jan.'17. In 15 games he recorded 11.6ppg, 2.3rpg, 1.8apg and 1.3spg last season. Newly promoted Manawatu Jets (NBL) landed 25-year old American guard Brandon Lucas (193-93kg-92, college: East Central). He has played for the last two years at York Buccaneers (ABA) in the U.S. Among other achievements he played in the final of GAC Tournament in 2015. Lucas received also All-GAC Honorable Mention award back in 2014 at his college time. Lucas graduated from East Central University in 2015 and it will be his third season in pro basketball.

Knight managed to play in three leagues in two countries last year. In 10 D1 games he had very impressive stats: 19.0ppg, 6.5rpg, 6.5apg and 1.0spg this season. He helped them to make it to the semifinals. Knight also played for Bashkimi (SuperLeague) in Kosovo that season where in 8 D1 games he recorded 10.6ppg, 3.6rpg, 5.1apg and 1.1spg. He also played 3 games in Balkan League where he averaged remarkable 20.0ppg, 5.3rpg and 2.7apg. The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others Knight played in the final of MVC Tournament in 2015. He was also voted NABC All-District 16 2nd Team back in 2015 at his college time. Knight has played previously professionally in Lithuania (Siauliai) and Turkey (Final Genclik). He attended Illinois State until 2015 and it is his third season as a professional player.
