28-year old guard Corey Webster (188-G-88) had a very impressive game in the last round for league's best team Wellington S. and receives a Australiabasket.com Player of the Week award for round 5.
He had the game-high 29 points adding seven assists for Wellington S. in his team's victory, helping them to crush Southland S. (#4, 4-3) with 18-point margin 111-93. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed Wellington S. to consolidate first place in the New Zealand league. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. It's already very far into the season and Wellington S. keeps a perfect 7-0 record. In the team's last game Webster had a remarkable 78.6% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Wellington S., being already a very valuable addition to the team. Lambuth University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Webster is league's best scorer averaging so far 28.6ppg. Webster is in league's top in assists (6th best: 5.4apg) and averages solid 59.0% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Mitchell McCarron (191-G-92) of league's second-best SC Rangers. He is Australian guard in his first season at SC Rangers. In the last game McCarron recorded impressive 21 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Of course SC Rangers cruised to a 99-87 relatively comfortable win over the lower-ranked Nelson G. (#7, 1-6). This victory allowed SC Rangers to move up to second position in the standings. His team's 4-2 record is not bad at all. McCarron is one of the most experienced players at SC Rangers and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 23.2ppg (#3). His other stats are also decent: 7.3rpg and 5.2apg.

Third place about best performers goes to center Alex Pledger (215-C-87) of Southland S. (#4). Pledger scored 21 points and grabbed eleven rebounds (!!!). He was a key player of Southland S., leading his team to a 101-87 easy win against slightly lower-ranked Taylor Hawks (#6, 1-5). Southland S. needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 4 victories and 3 lost games. Pledger has a great season in New Zealand. After only 5 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 9.8rpg (2nd best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Marcel Jones (203-F-85) of Canterbury - 22 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists
5. Lindsay Tait (190-G-82) of SC Rangers - 17 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists
6. Shea Ili (184-G-92) of Wellington S. - 13 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

NZ Select defeat hosts - 3 days ago
New Zealand Select were given a much sterner test by host club side Jiangsu in the second game of their China tour before pulling away to win 84-65. His 18 points were gathered at an efficient 8 from 12 from the field, plus 2 from 2 free throws.
