Webster's 37-point game gives him Player of the Week award - May 8, 2017

28-year old guard Corey Webster (188-G-88) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for league's best team Wellington S. and receives a Australiabasket.com Player of the Week award for round 8.
He had the game-high 37 points adding three rebounds and six assists for Wellington S. in his team's victory, helping them to beat SC Rangers (#4, 5-5) 98-87. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed Wellington S. to consolidate first place in the New Zealand league. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. It's already very far into the season and Wellington S. keeps a perfect 11-0 record. In the team's last game Webster had a remarkable 61.1% from 2-point range and got four three-pointers out of 6 attempts. He just recently signed at Wellington S., being already a very valuable addition to the team. Lambuth University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Webster is league's best scorer averaging so far 25.4ppg. Webster is in league's top in and averages solid 59.0% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Alex Pledger (215-C-87) of league's second-best Southland S.. He is former international center in his first season at Southland S.. In the last game Pledger recorded impressive double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds. Of course Southland S. cruised to a 105-94 relatively comfortable win over slightly lower-ranked Canterbury (#3, 6-6). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Southland S. consolidated its place in top 2 of the standings. His team's 7-3 record is not bad at all. Pledger is one of the most experienced players at Southland S. and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third place about best performers goes to guard Mitchell McCarron (191-G-92) of SC Rangers (#4). McCarron scored 28 points and grabbed eight rebounds. He was a key player of SC Rangers, leading his team to a 106-83 easy win against the lower-ranked Taranaki MA (#7, 3-9). SC Rangers needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 5 victories and 5 lost games. McCarron has a great season in New Zealand. After 10 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 24.1ppg (3rd best), rebounds with 7.4rpg (9th best) and assists with 5.0apg (8th best). He also has 2.3spg and FGP: 51.4%.

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
