Nick Kay
Australian Nick Kay (206-C/F-92) had a great game in the last round for second-ranked Southland S., receiving a Australiabasket.com Player of the Week award for round 9.
The 24-year old player had a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds, while his team beat Canterbury (#4, 6-7) 93-79. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Southland S. maintains the 2nd position in New Zealand NBL. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Southland S. will need more victories to improve their 9-3 record. Kay just recently signed at Southland S., being already a very valuable addition to the team. Former Metropolitan State College of Denver star has very solid stats this year. Kay is in league's top in rebounds (5th best: 8.8rpg) and averages impressive 53.3% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was 27-year old Dutch Josh Duinker (209-F/C-89) of league's leader Wellington S.. Duinker had a very good evening with a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds. Of course he led Wellington S. to another comfortable win 94-76 over the lower-ranked Taranaki MA (#7, 3-10) being unquestionably team leader. Of course Wellington S. still keep the league's top spot. He plays for the best team in the league and Wellington S. managed to win all 12 games keeping a perfect record. Duinker is one of the most experienced players at Wellington S. and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third on the list of top players last round was Australian guard Mitchell McCarron (191-G-92) of SC Rangers (#3). McCarron scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds. He was a key player of SC Rangers, leading his team to a 95-88 win against slightly lower-ranked Taylor Hawks (#5, 3-8). SC Rangers needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 7 victories and 5 lost games. McCarron has a great season in New Zealand. After 12 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 23.2ppg (3rd best) and assists with 4.7apg (9th best). He also has 2.1spg and FGP: 50.6%.

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
