WBC Round 6 of Regular Season - May 28, 2017

The most shocking disappointment of round 6 in the WBC was a home defeat of 3rd ranked Taranaki T. (5-2) to fourth ranked Waikato W. (6-1) 62-57 in the game for the third place. It ended the five-game winning streak of Taranaki T. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 23-6. But Taranaki T. won second period 13-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Waikato W. dominated on the defensive end, holding Taranaki T. to just 6 points in first quarter. Waikato W. have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. Taranaki T. at the other side dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. Waikato W. are looking forward to face Auckland LR (#8) in the next round where they are favorite. Taranaki T. will play against Oceana GR. (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Tauranga CC has finally registered their first victory this season after seven consecutive losses. The win is especially important as it came on the road game in , where they outplayed Tokerau P. (0-8) 70-48. Tauranga CC maintains tenth position with 1-7 record. It was Tokerau P.'s eighth loss in a row. They still close the standings with eight games lost. Tauranga CC will play against higher ranked Rotorua LV (#9) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Tokerau P. will play against the league's second-placed Waikato C. where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
Bottom-ranked Tokerau P. (0-8) is still winless. This time they lost on the road their eighth consecutive match to eighth ranked Harbour B. (3-4) 70-25 on Saturday evening. Harbour B. have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to seventh place. Loser Tokerau P. still closes the standings with eight games lost. Harbour B. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Tokerau P. will play against the league's second-placed Waikato C. (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
The game in was also worth to mention about. Second ranked Waikato C. (7-1) played at the court of 5th ranked Capital S. (4-3). Waikato C. defeated Capital S. 88-74. Waikato C. have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Canterbury W. Capital S. at the other side keeps the fifth place with three games lost. Waikato C.'s next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Tokerau P. (#11) and are hoping to win another game. Capital S. will play against Rotorua LV (#9) and hope to win that game.

In the last game of round 6 Harbour B. destroyed Tauranga CC on the opponent's court 88-51.

Tauranga CC - Harbour B. 51-88

Rather expected game when 10th ranked Tauranga CC (1-7) was crushed at home by eighth ranked Harbour B. (3-4) 88-51. The game without a history. Harbour B. led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Harbour B. have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to seventh place. Tauranga CC lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with seven games lost. Harbour B. will have a break next round. Tauranga CC will play against Rotorua LV (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Tokerau P. - Tauranga CC 48-70

Capital S. - Waikato C. 74-88

Capital S. was ahead by 1 point at the halftime before a 49-34 second half run of Waikato C.. Waikato C. have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Canterbury W. Capital S. at the other side keeps the fifth place with three games lost. Waikato C.'s next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Tokerau P. (#11) and are hoping to win another game. Capital S. will play against Rotorua LV (#9) and hope to win that game.
