The U18 Saipan Rotary Summer Youth Basketball League is scheduled to tip off on July 7. Fourteen teams will play in this league. I used Shan Seman article for SaipanTribune to cover this story.

After drawing lots, San Antonio Sixers I and Ol'Aces set up an early showdown to open the curtains for the 2005 season when both powerhouse teams square off beginning at 6pm. Other teams include Sixers II, San Antonio, Hoops, Breeze, Garapan Rollers I, II, and III, Matansa Sparks, Bwibwis, Saints, Junior Nationals, and the Southern Sonics. All players listed on the team roster must not turn 19 years old before Sept. 30, 2005.
The league expected about 18 teams, however, several teams dropped out. With the field now featuring 14 teams, league officials have decided not to set up pool play. Also, the regular season will feature a one-round elimination process in which teams will face each other once before the top squads head into the playoffs.
