The Papua New Guinea Basketball Federation announced a 16-name preliminary squad for the upcoming South Pacific Games which will be held in Samoa at the end of August. The team features some experienced players at the Pacific stage like the Baldwin brothers Paiwa and Iliwa, Joe Elavo or Apia Muri. Unfortunatly, a couple of talented overseas players were not included in the team like Charles Opio (186-G-85), Peterson Opio (194-F-84) or Joachim Toss (203-C-81).
