SPMG Day6: Men fall in quarterfinals, Women defeated Guam - Jul 30, 2005

Following a great pool phase the Palau men NT lost its quarterfinal game against Papua New Guinea 80-89, they will play against the Solomon Islands for the 5th place. On the ladies side, Palau defeated Guam and can dream to reach the semifinals if they manage to defeat New Caledonia on Monday.

 

Men: Palau - Papua New Guinea: 80-89
PNG was leading only by 1 point after three quarter but their depth and experience made the difference. Despite this loss the palauans should be proud of themselves. Lyndon Ngiramolau led his side with 12pts 5/7FG 7rbs in 26min, Wallace Rikrik added 10pts 5/10FG in 15min while Sunshine Soalablai was hold to 10pts 3/16FG 6rbs in 28min.

 

Other quarterfinals results:
Guam - Marshall Islands: 83-46
Fiji - Solomon Islands: 71-47
New Caledonia - Micronesia: 72-48

 

Women: Palau - Guam: 59-48
A good surprise for the girls who managed to defeat the micronesian superpower Guam. Stephanie Ngirchoimei and Jaime Ngirausui were in the zone during this game. Ngirchoimei posted 18pts 7/11FG 10rbs 6ast abd 4st in 34min, Ngirausui also scored 18pts 7/15FG 6rbs in 24min. Cheryl Rengulbai added 8pts 4/10FG in 29min. The girls have a slight chance to reach the semifinals if they managed to beat New Caledonia.

No games on Sunday. The Women will play on Monday against New Caledonia in a must-win game to reach the semifinals. The men will play against the Solomon Islands for the 5th place in the tournament.

Back-to-back titles for Peched Raw - 3 Years ago
Peched Raw made an impossible feat as they went on retain their title as champions after beating Ngermid Rivals, 93-87 in Game Five of the 2014 IP&E National Basketball League (NBL) at the Palau National gym. Palau takes the bronze medal at Micronesian Games - 3 Years ago
July 29, down at The National Campus, Palikir, Palau and Kosrae go head to head in the men's basketball division for the bronze medal. Palau was leading in the first quarter, 17-11. By the end of the 2nd quarter, KSA came up by one point ahead of Palau, 32-31. After halftime, Palau took the lead again, 53-52. The final was 72-70 in favor of Palau.
