Vili Morton

Vili Morton (203-F) one of many Samoans that are currently playing college basketball in the US.  Having roots from both Samoa and American Samoa, Vili could be eligible to play for either country.  Vili is currently finishing his senior year at UC Riverside.  Vili took the time to answer our questions about his performances at UCR, the injury that he has faced, his expectations and the prospect of him playing for Samoa.  We would like to thank him for this interview and wish him all the best for the upcoming season.

What position do you prefer to play?

I prefer to play the four position, but I can get away with playing the five spot. In the Big West there are a lot of undersized centers, so I can get away with playing the center spot. I think my more natural position would be the four, but for the time being I will play the five.

What are your strengths and weaknesses in your game?

Strengths are getting inside. I have tremendous touch around the basket. I think my weaknesses are as I pull out further from the basket. I am working on my ball handling and my touch outside, but I am definitely stronger in the paint.

How would you describe your performance last season?

Very average. As good as could be expected in the situation. It was not where I wanted to be, but under the circumstances, being injured, I did OK. It allowed me to improve in other parts of the game, ball handling, free throws, etc just being more basketball aware.
