Alofa Toiavao had an impressive first year with the Univeristy of Hawaii.  Although techinically a sophomore Toiavao averaged 9.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 2.5 blocks and 1.2 steals per game off the bench for Hawaii. Alofa took the the time to talk to us about her season and expectations; and also about her Samoan heritage and the prospects of playing in the WNBA or Overseas

Name- Alofa’aga Ueni Toiaivao
Height- 6’2
Position- Center
Age- 20

What are you strengths and weakness in your game?

My main strength in basketball would have to be my ability to block shots and seeing the court. According to my weaknesses, I would have to say that my main weakness is staying out of foul trouble. I tend to draw a lot of fouls while trying to block shots.
What kind of work do you put in to eliminate the weakness in your game?

I have to know that I can’t block every shot, stay on the ground, and always think positive. Double my work on my weaknesses and focus on how to eliminate them.
How did you end up playing basketball for the University of Hawaii?

I came on a campus visit with teammate, Janevia Taylor and thought the visit was very interesting and impressing. So while packing and on my way to the airport I decided to sign the letter of intent before I left. I chose to attend this University because I wanted to go to a college where I can bring the team up to a ranked position and not go to a college that’s already ranked and known.
How much did it influence you to play along with your first cousin former UH player April Atuaia?

Its sad to say, but I didn’t get the chance to play with her.  I was really disappointed when I lost that opportunity but I was happy to see her finish her senior year.
Last year you have impressive figures off the bench.  Are you expected to start this season?

Lets just say that I am not going to expect anything at this moment because we have talented players on this team. Like I mentioned last year, I really don’t mind starting or not, but just as long as I get some kind of playing time to show others what I can do.
You had a coaching change last year.  Has that affected your basketball development in any way?

Since I was ineligible my first year I did not get the chance and opportunity to play for Vince Goo and his coaching staff. The new coaching staff has not affected any of my basketball developments. It felt like my first year there, too. So, they were new to the program just like how I was.

What are your expectations fo
