The men and women squad from AS Aorai won their first game in the Pacific Champions Cup 2004 in New Caledonia. The men crushed a tired Wallis&Futuna team 99-24 and the women defeated the Caledonia North Province by a large margin 80-46.
Wallis&Futuna had a tough game yesterday against Mont-Dore and the players were tired even before starting the game against Aoari. The tahitians made a serious game (24-7 at the end of the first quarter) and also prepared the upcoming contest against MDBC. This game will be the Final of the tournament.
"We played this game at 100%, it was a great training game before facing Mont-Dore" said Pierre Villant, coach of both Aorai teams "The boys are highly motivated et we came here to win. Against Mont-Dore it will be a hard game and i think the most physical team would claim the victory."
The final score (99-24) was impressive, everything is in place for the final game. The winner of this contest will play the French Cup next.
On the women side, Aorai showed a great level of play and the game against Caledonia North Province seemed like a clinic sometimes (80-46). A great team chemistry, a controlled game and a great speed were their biggest weapons. Now the girls are ready to face another team from New Caledonia: Vallee-du-tir, who was the 2003 caledonian champs.
"The girls did a great game. This is a good sign before playing against Vallée-du-tir" analyzed Pierre Villant, delighted by the game "We know that JSVDT is a great team, we'd need to play at our best if we don't want to have regrets after the game".
