Hibernians are the winners of this season's pre-season tournament which was named Independence Cup. The women's tournament was played on a round robin format between five teams. As from these season, there are no foreigners in the women's basketball. Together with winners Hibs, Caffe Moak Luxol now under the guidance of coach Charles Bonnici, Gzira Athleta, Pavi Depiro and Starlites Naxxar took part. After the first results, it was clear that the game between Luxol and Hibs was going to be decisive for this tournament. Hibs now under coach Alex Farrugia obtained the signature of pivot Josephine Grima (193-C-84) during the summer who returned to base after a succesful 10 year career which saw her playing in Italy, Slovakia, Sweden and France. In the opening match Gira Athleta won 36-24 against Starlites who are coached by Sandro Farrugia. Hibs opened their competition against PAVI Depiro with a comfortable victory 54-19 and even champions Luxol started with a victory against Athleta 48-26. In the last game of the first day, Depiro won against Starlites 38-11. In the second day, Hibs obtained a good victory against Starlites 57-12 and Luxol replied to their victory after beating the same Starlites 65-14.
