Interview with Tui Avaava

Tui Avaava is regarded as a true jorneyman in college basketball.  Guaduating in 2001 from Federal Way, was initially attending Northwestern College, then transferred as a walk on at the University of Hawaii only to find out that he couldn't get a scholarship.  Now at Highline CC, Tui is enjoying the added responsibility of being co-captain of the team.  The American Samoan guard took the time to answer our questions and we wish all the best for the future

 

What are your height, position and age?

6'4 guard 22yrs old

 

What is your preferred position on basketball court?

Any guard position is fine I prefer the point

 

What are your strengths and weaknesses in your basketball game?

I am very good passer and shooter my defence is very good as well. Sometimes I think too much rather than play, I also try to get my teammates so involved that I sometimes try to do too much.

 

How would you describe your performances as a senior at high school basketball?

I was the go to guy I averaged over 20 pts a game and every night it was with double teams. Most teams we played tried to box and one but I worked really hard on my one dribble pull up which really hurt their box and one.

 

You are entering your freshman year at Highline CC.  What are your expectations from a team prospective?

Well, I have been nominated co-captain and as much as I like to score and feel I do it well. I know that I need to
