One of the best prospect from American Samoa is currently living in an island. But not in the South Pacific area. Leroy Lutu (181-G-89) is currently playing basketball with Mercer Island HS, a school based on an island near the city of Seattle, WA.

Leroy Lutu (181-G-89) is currently a sophomore at Mercer Island HS, he's playing both basketball and US football. He's a left-handed shooter/scorer, he will be playing the shooting guard position and competing with a junior and a senior for a starting position and playing time in the basketball varsity squad.
He's still a player in the making and have a lot of work to do, but the talent is there and according to his coaches, he's a natural leader and have outstanding athletic skills. He has attended Mercer Island HS since the 9th grade, he would graduated in 2008 and then would join an US College. Hopefully to play basketball.
Leroy's talent is already too big for the American Samoa standarts. This summer he was back in his homeland and he led Fagatogo to a Summer-League title with 52pts in the final game, he was voted the game's Most Valuable Player. Not so bad for a player who was coming off of a broken hand.
Basketball season will start on November 28th for his school. We will try to keep an eye on him during his sophomore year at Mercer Island HS and will post news about him as soon as possible.

Samoa book semi-final place with big win - 5 months ago
Samoa were dominant throughout their 99-63 win over American Samoa in their third game of the FIBA Men's Polynesian Cup at the N.U.S. Gym last night. Coach Aukusitino Schuster had emphasised fitness in the leadup to the tournament, and the benefits of this were on display in the win. 'It's a very physical and demanding game,' Aukusitino Schuster said. 'Our big bench helps us a lot.' Samoa did major damage in all the hustle stats, scoring 13 more points from turnovers, seven more second ch...   [read more]
