US High-School: Leroy Lutu shines

Leroy Lutu (181-G-89) is having a great start in his sophomore year at Mercer Island High-School, the 16-year old guard was his team's leading scorer twice and he earned a spot in the team's starting five.

Mercer Island started the year with a 50-69 loss to Lake Washington but the Islanders bounced back in fashion with two wins in a row: 71-30 vs Liberty and 59-35 vs Newport. Lutu posted 20pts 4rbs and 2ast vs Liberty and 17pts against Newport. Unfortunatly Mercer fall in the next contest against the league's defending champions Issaquah 53-58, despite 10pts 5rbs from Lutu. The coach Ed Pepple is pretty happy about his american samoan guard.
"It was kind of radical, for some people, for us to start him," said Mercer Island head coach Ed Pepple. "We saw enough at practice that we knew we should start him. He plays with confidence and he is really aggressive."
