27-year old forward Kelly Bowen (182-F-89) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Waverley F. and receives a Australiabasket.com State League Player of the Week award for round 8.
She had the game-high 35 points adding eight rebounds and two assists for Waverley F. in her team's victory, helping them to crush McKinnon C. (#8, 3-6) with 23-point margin 86-63. Waverley F. maintains the 4th position in their group in Australian league. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Waverley F. will need more victories to improve their 6-3 record. In the team's last game Bowen had a remarkable 75.0% from 2-point range. She just recently signed at Waverley F., being already a very valuable addition to the team. Gonzaga University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Bowen is in league's top in points (9th best: 21.4ppg) and averages solid 1.4bpg and 41.7% from behind 3-point line.

Second best performed player last round was Brittany Hodges (185-F-93) of SW Slammers. She is American forward in her first season at SW Slammers. In the last game Hodges recorded impressive double-double of 30 points and 18 rebounds. Of course she led SW Slammers to another comfortable win outscoring slightly lower-ranked Kalamunda E.S. (#11, 2-8) 92-68. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the top position in SBL. SW Slammers keeps 9th position. Her team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 3-7 record. Hodges is one of the most experienced players at SW Slammers and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third place about best performers goes to forward Chastity Reed (185-F-89) of Rockingham CF (#7). Reed got into 30-points club by scoring 39 points in the last round. She went also for thirteen rebounds . Despite Reed's great performance Rockingham CF lost 74-85 to slightly higher-ranked Perth R. (#5, 5-3). But her team cannot count on just a single shooter as she also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Rockingham CF ranking at the top of SBL, however are very questionable as they have already lost 6 games, recording just four victories. With bigger assistance of her teammates, Reed could help Rockingham CF to bring them higher in the standings. Reed has a very solid season. In 4 games in Australia she scored 23.5ppg.

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
