D.J. Newbill
New Zealand Breakers (NBL) strengthened their roster with addition of 25-year old American guard D.J. Newbill (193-93kg-92, college: The Pennsylvania State). He played last season at Telenet BC Oostende in Belgian Euromillions League. Newbill managed to play in three leagues last year. In 45 Euromillions League games he recorded 8.4ppg, 2.3rpg and 1.7apg. He helped them to win the league title and the cup. Great season indeed as he was voted to Eurobasket.com All-Belgian League Honorable Mention. Newbill also played 6 games in FIBA Europe Cup where he averaged 8.0ppg, 2.2rpg and 2.0apg. He contributed to his team making it to the FIBA Europe Cup Semifinals. And finally Newbill contributed to 14 games in Basketball Champions League where he had 5.8ppg, 1.6rpg and 1.5apg.
Newbill ended the previous (2015-16) season at Akhisar Bld in Turkish TBL. In 8 games he got 10.6ppg, 4.8rpg, 2.6apg and 1.5spg. But the most of that year he spent at ASVEL Lyon Villeurbanne Basket in French ProA. In 15 games he got 6.7ppg, 1.7rpg and 1.8apg. Newbill also played 7 games in FIBA Europe Cup where he got 13.0ppg, 2.3rpg, 2.4apg and 1.0spg.
Newbill has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2015.
He graduated from The Pennsylvania State in 2015 and it will be his third season as a professional player.
The scouts decsribe him following way: A tenacious rebounder and defender and a strong scorer with a knack for getting to the foul line, Newbill can also serve as a primary ball-handler if called upon.
